If you have periodontitis and have receding gums, you may need a gum graft. Gum recession occurs when the tissues around the teeth pull away, exposing more of the tooth or the tooth root. This exposure can cause damage to the bone that supports the teeth. As gum recession is a gradual process, you may not even realize that it is occurring. Over time however, your teeth may become sensitive to hot and cold temperatures. Gum grafts can correct the damage caused by receding gums and restore the beauty of your smile. When needed, our dentist is proud to provide a pedicle graft in North Richland Hills, Texas.

Unlike other kind of tissue grafts, in which tissue is taken from the palate, pedicle grafts take tissue from the gums around the tooth that needs repair. A flap of gums, called a pedicle, is cut away partially with one edge still attached. The gum is pulled into place so that it covers the exposed tooth or tooth root. Then the tissue is sewn into place. This procedure can only be performed if you have plenty of gum tissue around the tooth.
